Free trainings for Ward 7 stakeholders

From July to September, Tish Atkins and I will be offering free workshops and trainings to Ward 7 residents and Ward 7-based nonprofits and businesses.   Registration is required.

Upcoming sessions:

  • Fundamentals of Communications: Learn the basics of effective communications including timing of information sharing, identifying your audience, flyer design, and tips and tricks and leave with a list of resources.
    • Tuesday, July 14, 3:30 - 5:00 pm, Capitol View Library, 5001 Central Ave SE
    • Wednesday, July 15, 10:00 - 11:30 am, MPD Youth Division, 5002 Hayes St NE
  • Outreach and Engagement: Get the 411 on effective outreach and engagement. Attendees will learn the difference between the two and the basics of both. Participants will leave with important crowd-sourced information about outreach venues, virtual and IRL (in real life).

  • Social Media Brown Bag Lunch: Social media is here to stay. But that doesn't mean you need to have a presence on every platform. There will be a brief presentation and then Q & A about challenges, opportunities, social media tools, and more!
    • Wednesday, July 29, Noon - 1:30 pm, location TBA
  • ABC's of Advocacy: Learn the nuts and bolts of advocacy in this information-packed session. Attendees will learn about the fundamentals—building and maintaining government and community relationships, identifying and effectively communicating community needs and concerns, and becoming a key player in shaping the District's policy making.
