June 11: Report release on (deplorable) conditions of DC prisons

On Thursday, June 11 from 10:30 - 11:30 am, the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs along with partner Covington & Burling will release "D.C. Prisoners: Conditions of Confinement in the District of Columbia."   The report provides an in-depth look on the recurring and serious problems in DC prisons and proposes specific remedies.   The following topics will be discussed:
  • The deteriorating state of D.C. prison facilities
  • Widespread problems of mental health treatment and suicide prevention
  • Concerns about the for-profit Corrections Corporation of America, which runs one of the two primary D.C. detention facilities
