DOES gets a director

Last week at the SYEP kickoff, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that Deb Carroll, longtime director of the Economic Security Administration in DHS, would run DOES.   No release was issued by the mayor about this important announcement.   There are, however, these emails.   From Carroll:
Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced my appointment as the Acting Director for the Department of Employment Services. I am truly excited about the opportunity to help shape workforce development policies and practices that benefit all residents, including those we serve at DHS.

And from Laura Zeilinger, Acting Director of DHS:

Please join me in wishing congratulations to Deborah Carroll on her appointment to lead the Department of Employment Services! I am not surprised the Mayor recognized Deb’s leadership and talent and decided that she had to have her for that role. I admire Deb's presence, legal mind, determination, and ability to keep the people we serve at the forefront of her decision making. Having her at the helm of DOES will be fantastic for our collaboration with DOES and efforts to support DHS clients in accessing meaningful employment. Nevertheless, I know many of us will miss having her part of the day to day at DHS.
