Community meeting on drugs in Ward 8 July 11

Dear Concerned Citizens of Ward 8,

It was nearly a year ago that Mayor Gray walked with residents in Congress Heights to ask business owners to stop selling drug paraphernalia. To observe the anniversary of that event and to update the community regarding the results (if any), the following organizations will cosponsor a community change conversation with Mayor Gray on K2/Scooby Snacks and drug paraphernalia:

Anacostia Coordinating Council (ACC)

Advisory Neighborhood Commissions 8C and 8E

Congress Heights Community Association

Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative

Korean American Grocers Association (KAGRO) of Washington, DC

Little Ethiopia DC

Ward 8 Drug-Free Coalition

Wards 7 and 8 DC Prevention Center

The community forum will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2013, in Saint Elizabeths Hospital auditorium, 1100 Alabama Avenue, SE, 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Mayor Gray will be there from 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm. Food and drinks will be served. Photo identification will be required for admission to the hospital. Shuttle service will be provided for the elderly and disabled from the Alabama Avenue gate to the hospital. This is an extremely important Ward 8 community meeting with the goal of achieving concrete results and solutions. Please share the attached flier with your Ward 8 neighbors and friends. I hope to see you there. For further information, please contact me at 889-4900 or

Yours for community progress,

Philip Pannell
