Signs-ons needed for letter supporting health insurance plan

DCFPI is asking for sign-ons for this letter supporting the plan for the HBX to be sole marketplace for health insurance for small businesses and individuals.
The DC Fiscal Policy Institute and a coalition of organizations needs YOUR HELP, AS A SMALL BUSINESS, to make the new DC Health Exchange as affordable and consumer-friendly as possible. On June 4, the DC Council will vote on legislation -- the Better Prices, Better Quality, Better Choices for Health Coverage Amendment Act of 2013 -- which would make the exchange the sole marketplace for all insurance sold to small businesses and individuals. We need your support to ensure the bill passes as is, without insurer-led amendments that would weaken the bill.

Small employers, like ours, stand to benefit substantially from this legislation as currently drafted. The exchange will act as a one-stop shop and display prices and benefits of all plans available in the market ---providing maximum choice and value for our employees. Insurers will finally have to compete for our business, while providing the benefits promised to us by the Affordable Care Act.

But insurance company interests are pushing back and want to significantly delay the transition to a one-stop shopping market, or kill it altogether.

Attached is a small employer sign-on letter in support of mayor’s legislation as introduced. The letter will be distributed to the DC Council. If your organization would like to sign on, we ask that you submit your organization’s name and contact information (address, phone) by Close of Business Wednesday, May 29th to Wes Rivers ( ).
