OST funding takes a hit in FY 2013 proposed budget

Funding for out-of-school time programs for children and youth ages 5 to 18 is down again in FY 2013.   Mayor Vince Gray's proposed FY 2013 budget maintains the downward trajectory of OST services for more than 115,000 children and youth across the District.

The just-released analysis of OST funding in the proposed FY 2013 budget, What's in the mayor's proposed FY 2013 budget for OST? (PDF) presents the budget numbers along with the all important dates of public budget hearings.

Read, learn, and take action.   Our children are counting on it.

  1. Thank you for the interesting brief. Frankly, I'm a bit concerned about equating the drop in funding to OST programs with the value we place on DC children, especially when funding in the base year used is so unusually high. Is that the amount the programs should get next year? What indicators do we have that the proposed amount isn't enough? I'm not implying it is. Just trying to get a handle on the issue.
