Opening day activities will include a demonstration by Ward 7’s own "Chef T" as well as entertainment and a variety of food. Local farmers will bring produce.
This market helps address the area's "food desert" status, a result of the poor access to healthy and fresh food options. The market will accept WIC coupons and EBT payment. Seniors (60 and older) may be eligible for free food under the Commodity Supplemental Food Program.
As an added bonus, Parkside-Kenilworth is working with the Capital Area Food Bank to ensure that excess or leftover produce remains in the community.
CityInterests, UDC's Cooperative Extension Service, and DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative are among the project partners.
