Upcoming Council hearings as noticed in January 14 DCR

Three hearings were published in the January 14 DC Register that might be of interest to those working on budget and policy issues related to children, youth and families and good government issues.   One is on access to technology, another on bike and pedestrian safety and the third concerns open government policy.

  • Public oversight roundtable on the "Office of the Chief Technology Officer's DC-Net Fiber Optic Network", January 31:   The Committee on Government Operations and the Environment (Ward 3 CM Mary Cheh, chair) is holding the roundtable January 31 at 2:15 pm in the Council Chamber in the JAWB.   The purpose of the roundtable is get an update on the status of DC-Net, use of federal ARRA funds, and receive information on how OCTO has responded to 2010 legislation which allowed the technology agency to provide services to nonprofits working in the areas of education and health.   More about the hearing, including how to register to testify, is in the hearing notice.
  • Public oversight hearing on "Enforcement of Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety", February 4:   The Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary (At-large CM Phil Mendelson, chair) is holding the hearing to hear from residents about the enforcement of traffic regulations and laws.   The hearing is being held February 4 at Noon in the JAWB.   More about the hearing, including how to register to testify, is in the hearing notice.
  • Public oversight roundtable on "The District's Open Meetings Law and Advisory Neighborhood Commissions", January 27:   The Committee on Government Operations and the Environment (Ward 3 CM Mary Cheh, chair) is holding the roundtable January 27 at 2:00 pm in the JAWB.   The purpose of the hearing is to hear testimony on whether the city should apply the open meetings law to ANCs.   More about the hearing, including how to register to testify, is in the hearing notice.
