This event kicks off a new "Adopt-a-School" partnership between YEP-DC members and a local school in need of resources and volunteers. The long-term partnership will provide the selected school with eager and engaged volunteers, while also offering YEP-DC members an opportunity to learn more about the strengths and challenges of one DC school.
The "Washington Met" (formerly Youth Engagement Academy) is a small, alternative high school that opened in 2008-09 and currently serves approximately 240 students, 93% of whom are eligible for free or reduced price lunch. The school is affiliated with the Big Picture Learning Network, and their program is focused on learning through real-world projects and internships, personal learning plans that are based on students' individual interests and needs, and building a college-going culture. Principal Tanishia Williams-Minor and members of her committed staff will talk about upcoming opportunities to support this new high school.Interested in public policy? The DC budget?
