Three child-related items in October 22 DCR

The government is seeking public input in several fora through Thanksgiving.   Both the legislative and executive branches are holding public hearings to elicit feedback on bills, laws, and plans related to healthy schools, welfare, and public health.

Public hearing on the city's health services block grant plan for the feds:   The Department of Health is holding a public hearing on the District's Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant on November 5 from 10:00 am – Noon.   The grant supports a range of programs operated by DOH and community-based organizations.   More information about the hearing, including how to register to comment, is in the hearing notice.

Public hearing on two human services bills:   The Committee on Human Services (Ward 6 CM Tommy Wells, chair) is holding a public hearing November 8 at 11:30 am in the JAWB.   The committee will hear testimony on B18-1007, "TANF Educational Opportunities and Accountability Act of 2010", and B18-1059, "Homeless Services Reform Amendment Act of 2010."   More information about the hearing, including about how to register to testify, is in the hearing notice.

Public roundtable on implementation of healthy schools act:   The Committee on Government Operations and the Environment (Ward 3 CM Mary Cheh, chair) is holding a public roundtable on The Implementation of the Healthy Schools Act, D.C. Law 18-209 December 6 at 10:30 am in the JAWB.   The purpose of the roundtable is to understand how the law is being implemented and which, if any, provisions should be strengthened.   More information about the roundtable, including how to register to testify, is in the hearing notice.
