Students offer solutions to budget problem

As those who watched the April 18 youth hearing or read WaPo's District Notebook today know, the city's budget has a "defect."   And that is why students from the Latin American Montessori Bilingual Public Charter School donated a jar of coins and bills to the city.   The six elementary school age students presented $80 to Council Chair Vince Gray at the hearing.

At a time when the Council and advocates are hashing out -- and fighting over -- the mayor's proposed FY 2010 budget, this is refreshing.   The students have demonstrated they understand what is needed: Solutions.   I, for one, will be writing the students and congratulating them on a job well done.

If you missed the youth hearing, you can catch it on Channel 13 on demand.
