Mayor creates new child welfare advisory committee

On February 19, Mayor Fenty signed Mayor's Order 2009-17 (see p. 2041), the order establishing the new Mayor's Advisory Committee on Child Welfare.   The committee will advise the mayor on all things child welfare from prevention to permanency.   This committee replaces MACCAN, the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect.

To date, the mayor has appointed five members of the committee (see p. 2047).

The creation of this new committee is a long time coming.   There is lots for this committee to do including the big job of helping think through what a post-LaShawn CFSA and child welfare system look like.
